Deep within the captivating rolling hills, lived a young shepherd. His being was untarnished, simple, and honest. His primary duty was to tend to his herd of rams.
Their gentle baas and the murmuring of the wind among the solo tree on the peak were his main companions. Day upon day, guarding his wards instilled in him a notion of tranquil contentment.
However, there were at times moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. During one such occasion because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy orchestrated a mischievous plot.
Narratives of wolves prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy decided to used this fear and check here played a joke on the villagers.
One day he dashed into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but saw nothing threatening.
The boy giggled at the confusion on their faces. This trick laughed for a few more days. But, one noon, a real wolf actually charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could protect only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the town only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of dishonesty.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is tough to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was then.
